ERD Rescue Swimmer (NCC-9-001)

Course Description:

The ERDI Rescue Swimmer I is designed to develop the knowledge and skills necessary for Rescue Swimmer Operations in emergency response applications by offering a reasonable response to a distressed/panicked individual in the water. It will discuss the types of Rescue Swimmer equipment and techniques. The objective of this course is to train entry-level rescue swimmers in the benefits, hazards, and proper procedures of rescue swimming in emergency response."

This will consist of a small classroom portion and then practical drills and a swim test. 

There is a swim test so being a decent/strong swimmer is recommended. Here are some of the swim test standards:

Swimming Evaluation: Students are to successfully complete the following water skills: 1. 400-metre swim with mask, snorkel, and fins non-stop without the use of arms 2. 200-metre swim without aids non-stop. 3. 100-metre buddy tow in PFD non-stop. 4. 10 minutes survival-float. 

Additional Notes:

Equipment Needed: Mask, Fins, Snorkel, Swimsuit, PFD, and/or Wetsuit. YDT will have some equipment available for use during the class however if you have personal gear, you're encouraged to bring it.

Fire, EMS, Rescue/Dive Team members, Law Enforcement, Emergency Management, emergency volunteers.
