Introduction to Radiological Equipment
This class is intended to give first responders full understanding of and respect for radiation incidents and the equipment used in detection, and to dispel myths they have heard about responding to a radiation event.
Topics covered include:
- What is radiation? Where does it come from?
- Different types of shielding
- How and why to use potassium iodide (KI)
- Proper use and set up of dosimeters and PRD badges, and how to record readings, including electronic dosimeters
- Setup, use, and inspection of portal monitors
- Setup and maintenance of friskers
