The REP Public Information Officer (PIO) Discussion Panel is an interactive session designed for emergency management personnel, communicators, and public information officers involved in Radiological Emergency Preparedness (REP) planning and response. Participants will engage with a panel of experienced PIOs who have supported radiological exercises, nuclear facility events, and community outreach initiatives.
This class will provide insight into the unique challenges of communicating during radiological incidents, including:
- Coordinating with state, local, and federal agencies
- Managing public messaging and rumor control
- Working with Joint Information Centers (JICs)
- Addressing public safety concerns and protective action recommendations
- Navigating media engagement and social media strategies
The panelists will share real-world experiences, best practices, and lessons learned from drills, exercises, and experiences. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, discuss scenarios, and explore solutions for effective communication during radiological emergencies.
