To instruct Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel, Law Enforcement, and other personnel with first response capability on the ATV/UTV Task Force make-up and Operational Tactics and Techniques while conducting Search and Rescue Missions for Specialized Search Situations such as missing people after a natural disaster or major catastrophic event with numerous unknown missing people in a wilderness environment during both day and night conditions.
At the end of this block of instruction, the student will be familiar with the use and safe operations of an A TV or UTV while negotiating unfamiliar wilderness terrain, conducting various search missions, while being completely self-contained by:
1. Familiarization with Mission essential equipment needed to execute search operations 24 hrs, 36 hrs, 48 hrs, and 72 hrs.
2l Familiarization with the overall functioning of the machine and it's capabilities regarding Load placement and Proper securing of mission equipment and vehicle needed equipment for sustainability.
3. Familiarization with Machine maintenance and minor field repair.
4. Demonstrate the method for Route clearing, Route reconnaissance, and Communications to facilitate safe movement of the Task Force.
5. Demonstrate appropriate safe transporting of Lost subjects in all categories A-100, A- 200, A-300.
6. Demonstrate the ability to look ahead to set the machine up to negotiate an obstacle and reading the line of travel while towing a stokes basket hauler unit.
7. Familiarization with the use of recovery gear and techniques for recovering a machine and towing a disabled machine.
8. Demonstrate Nighttime operations with A TV /UTV platforms while conducting a search or Rescue mission.
9. Demonstrate search tactics and techniques, Route Clearing and Route Recon, Safe and Secure movement of personnel and equipment while operating an A TV or UTV on various terrain.
a. Sign-cutting and or tracking
b. Hasty Search and Efficient Search
c. Scouting / Pathfinders and Search Management area recon
d. Search Perimeter I confinement, and Transportation of teams
e. Moving special equipment and victim transportation
10. Familiarization with identifying and marking a Helicopter Landing Zone (HLZ) for either resupply operations or medical Dust Off.
Materials Required: Helmet, Eye protection, long pants, shirt, gloves with leather palms, boots with ankle support. Pen or pencil/ Note Pad/ Flashlight/ Flagging Tape, water and snacks, suitable clothing for the weather, small day pack. Food, water, and fuel to last through the three days of training.
Age Limit: Students must be 18 years or older and all students will sign a land use waiver .
