This exercise is a four-hour tabletop exercise conducted in-person to exercise and test the EHPC regional Pediatric and Burn Patient Surge plans. Hospitals and EMS agencies within the EHPC region are invited to attend. Lunch will be provided.
Exercise objectives:
- Test interoperable communications to ensure all EMS agencies provide receiving hospitals information on how many, what kind (injuries, acuity, age), and the ETA of EMS transported patients throughout the exercise.
- Ensure Medical Center (to include the Children’s Hospital) leadership establishes incident chain of command based on the hospital’s EOP and is followed appropriately throughout the exercise.
- Test the Children’s Hospital’s inpatient pediatric disaster plan by ensuring patient movement extends beyond the emergency department. Ensure the plan is followed appropriately by all affected staff.
- Test EastCare’s communications plan to ensure appropriate notifications occur between the operations center, multiple hospital facilities, and the EastCare communications center.
- Evaluate the facilities’ clinical capabilities to identify and treat pediatric inhalation burns effectively in the emergency department prior to disposition.
