Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) is an effective training and response program designed for first responders who handle crisis calls involving people with mental illness, intellectual disabilities, and alcohol and/or substance abuse disorders. The CIT training is designed to:
- Provide supportive measures and an “on-the-job-tool” that can be used by public safety personnel, including Law Enforcement, EMS, Telecommunicators, and Probation to enhance and maintain personnel, consumer, and public safety.
- Provide intervention strategies and alternatives to assist in directing individuals with mental illness and substance abuse issues to the appropriate health care system during crisis and reduce their involvement in the criminal justice system.
