Event Description

CAMEO Chemicals: Creating Order from CHAOS (NC-10-001)

Course Description: Participants will work with the CAMEO Chemicals software program as part of the CAMEO® software suite. Through hands-on examples and scenarios, they will as a first responder or planner be prepared with the necessary information needed to begin solving the problem of hazardous material response and planning activities.

To obtain CAMEO Awareness recognition, the participant shall be able to:

  1. Recognize and identify the presence of a hazardous material.
  2. Understand what hazardous materials are and the situations and locations in which they are most likely to be present within their community.
  3. The ability to recognize markings, placards or labels that indicate the presence of hazardous materials.
  4. Familiarity with the documentation / resources used to identify hazardous materials (such as the Emergency Response Guidebook (ERG), Safety Datasheets (SDS), or its equivalent)
  5. Utilize the CAMEO Chemicals software to perform searches for information necessary for planning and response efforts during a hazardous material incident.
  6. Understand the components of an Incident Action Plan (IAP)

Goal: To augment the capabilities of planning and response personnel utilizing the CAMEO Chemicals software program.

Objectives:

  1. Establish an acceptable level of training based upon requirements from OSHA 1910.120 p.q., NFPA 472: Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents and/or NFPA 1072: Standard for Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Emergency Response Personnel Professional Qualifications (Dependent on the AHJs minimum qualifications).
  2. Utilizing a version CAMEO Chemicals, the participants will:
    1. Refamiliarization of basic chemistry concepts with an understanding of physical and chemical properties of a substance.
    2. Review of installation of the program on tablets, laptops, Android, and iPhone devices.
    3. Explain the functions of the CAMEO Chemicals Home screen.
    4. Utilizing the Help system for guidance
    5. Conduct simple and advanced searches of the chemical database.
    6. Review and understand the information found in chemical datasheets.
    7. Utilize the “MyChemicals” list and Predict Reactivity tool options.
    8. Generate reports and print information.
