Event Description

HURREVAC (NC-999.16)

HURREVAC is the decision support tool of the National Hurricane Program (NHP), administered by FEMA, the USACE, and the National Hurricane Center. HURREVAC has now transitioned to a web-based platform and software is no longer needed. In addition to supporting operational response, HURREVAC can be used to support training, exercises, and hurricane preparedness and planning efforts.

HURREVAC combines real-time National Hurricane Center forecast products and storm surge modeling with evacuation clearance times from Hurricane Evacuation Studies. It also supports storm tracking and situational awareness by providing various data and graphics provided by other National Weather Service entities, including the SPC and WPC.

The training course will provide an overview of the program - what it is, what it does, and how it works. The training course will also go over the website layout, where the buttons/features are located and what they do. This session will also demonstrate how to apply decision support functionality based on hurricane scenarios, including hurricane hazard risk assessment and evacuation timing guidance.

• All HURREVAC classes are intended for Government Emergency Managers.
• Please note that each student will need to bring a laptop and have access to a WIFI source to ensure internet connectivity (it is strongly recommended that participants bring their own WIFI hot spots, if available). Internet connectivity is required to access the web-based version of HURREVAC. The laptop must also have an internet browser installed.
• HURREVAC requires a username and password for each government emergency manager. If you don’t have access to HURREVAC, please visit the registration page to apply for an account.
