Alternative fuels are becoming more commonplace as the world strives to be eco-friendly and more efficient. However, these new fuels present unique challenges to first responders that differ from those found with traditional petroleum fires. In this class, we talk about the alternative fuels that are on the rise, and what the leading tactics are for mitigating the emergencies that they present. The alternative fuel emergencies discussed include liquefied natural gas (LNG), compressed natural gas (CNG), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), lithium-ion batteries, and future technologies that are on the horizon.
Students must be current first responders, public safety, hazmat teams, E911, and emergency management personnel. Participants should have agency ID/credentials to register and attend.
This training is provided by the North Carolina Hazardous Materials Regional Response Team (RRT) 6, Greensboro Fire Department (GFD).
